The second to last day of the year is a good time to take a moment and look back on the year. If I were to wait until tomorrow this reflection would be crammed in between my New Years resolution list making (yes there is more than one draft), my last minute shopping for my New Years outfit, and of course the finalizing of New Years Eve plans. In other words it is just too hectic of a day for me to take the proper time to sit down and think about this past year and take note of the good times and even the not so good times. Even now as I sit here I have to admit I am amidst some minor chaos, feeding the cat that I have been cat-sitting, finishing up a homemade gift, laundry and cleaning my room. But I have a few minutes and rather than elaborate, which I think would not be the best thing to do, I will just create a quick list...in no particular ranking order...so here it goes...
Things That Were Good This Year:
I started Grad School - now 22 units into my Masters
Momma beating cancer!!
I visited Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons - Swam in Jackson Lake
Abbie - Born in March
BSE O-10 - Big Bear, San Diego, and the Fair (Go Bob!!)
Continued friendships and deeper bonds - Amy, Adri and Sara
New friendships - Stephanie, Suzy and Louellen
New writing ideas
New music - Broken Bells, Danger Mouse, Black Mountain, The Black Keys
Recording background for Kyng - even if it doesn't make the final cut!
Spending more time with my Uncle Manuel and Aunt Faye
Forgiveness - Stepho
Knotts Scary Farm and the Haunted Hay Ride
I'm on a Boat!
Facing my fear of Zombies - Walking Dead and World War Z
Reuniting with Nick - falling in love all over again!
Things That Were Not So Bueno:
Momma getting cancer - but she survived
Albert passing away - but able to say goodbye
Not talking to Amy for a while
Being stressed - TPAs grrrrrrrrrrr
Ok so looking at the list it is obvious that the good outweighs the bad...and well I am sure that I could put a long list of petty rants, but after the first two listed, nothing else really seemed remotely relevant to that...I have to say that time period, since they were pretty much back to back at the beginning of the year, was a real defining time of the year. Those two events did so much to me as far as how I viewed life, my future, my families' future and yet they also strengthened bonds, friendships, relationships and even love. Though those two moments are listed on my "Not So Bueno" list, they are really the two events that I will mostly remember of 2010. They have helped me, they have opened my eyes, they have made me strong!
So looking back....I am truly grateful to 2010...it was an interesting time...
